Find Some Sunshine and Shade Every Day
A wonderful self-care mantra
The other day, one of my supervisors logged onto our Slack Channel with the following message:
“morning team! hope everyone found some sunshine and shade this weekend!”*
I smiled at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I loved it.
She undoubtedly was talking literally. Going outside, getting some sun, getting that Vitamin D, seeing some nature, all of the good stuff that helps your mental and even physical health. But, odds are, if you’re currently experiencing summer right now, temperatures have probably been high, abnormally so. Staying safe during high temperatures means utilizing shade, reducing your time outdoors during the worst hours, and hydrating. All very good advice during hot days: get some sun, but stay safe.
And yet, it’s not simply advice about the sun.
Find some sunshine and shade.
It works on a metaphorical level as well. It’s a beautiful reminder of balance in everything. Even things that are good for us have a limit. Moderation in all things is key to ensuring health.
Strive for your goals, but find time to rest.
Take a bubble bath/ time for yourself, but also see other people in your life who are important to you.
Eat healthy, but also eat what you enjoy.
Do the chores, but also do something fun.
Take time to plan, but also time to meditate and just be.
Balance in all things.
This may become my new favorite mantra for the day.
I hope you find some sunshine and shade.
Today and every day.
